Scope & Content The Eileen Jeanneret collection of World War II photographs contains 130 black and white (gelatin silver prints) photographs from circa August 1943 to August 1945, and one issue of Pacific Newsweek from August 1945. Topics covered in the photographs include Allied Conferences, Quebec Canada, Aug. 1943; Washington Conference, Aug. 1943; Tehran Conference, Iran, Dec. 1943; Cairo Conference, Nov. 1943; Second Cairo Conference, Dec. 1943; several other unidentified strategic meetings; Naval ships, commanders, and personnel. Folders contain notes from the collector about possible subjects. Some photographs have notes, stamps, and U.S. Army Signal Corps numbers on the verso.

Admin/Biographical History The photographs in this collection document strategic meetings between Allied leaders, primarily from Britain and the United States, during World War II. The First Quebec Conference (codename QUADRANT) was held in Quebec City, August 17, 1943 – August 24, 1943 and was attended by Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt. The Washington Conference (codename Trident) was held in Washington, D.C from May 12 to May 25, 1943, also attended by Churchill and Roosevelt. The Cairo Conference (codename Sextant) was held in Cairo, Egypt, November 22–26, 1943 to discuss Japan, and was attended by Churchill, Roosevelt, and Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek of the Republic of China. The Tehran Conference (codename Eureka) was held in Tehran, Iran, November 28 - December 1, 1943. It was attended by Churchill, Roosevelt, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. The Second Cairo Conference was held in Cairo, Egypt, December 4–6, 1943 to discuss Turkey's possible contribution to the Allies in World War II. It was attended by Churchill, Roosevelt, and President Ismet Inönü of the Republic of Turkey. Additional photographs show Naval ships and Navy personnel from WWII. The August 20, 1945 issue of Pacific Newsweek was printed in Manila for the Armed Forces.

Provenance and Aquisition Information The collection was donated by Eileen Jeanneret on January 29, 2013.
Processing Information Items were kept in the order in which they were donated. Materials were refoldered into acid-free folders. The original notes on the folders were transcribed to the new folders. Student Assistant Krystyna Dyadyura carried out rehousing under the supervision of Special Collections Librarian Susan Graham.
